The book of 1 Timothy clearly outlines the qualifications for both elders and deacons in the Lord's church. 1 Timothy 3:1 tells us, "This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." and in 1 Timothy 3:8ff tells us the qualifications for deacons and concludes in verse 13 stating, "For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and a great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Servants in the Lord's church hold a great responsibility and Avondale is fortunate to have qualified men willing to serve in the roles commanded by God's word. Serving as deacons are the following men:

Deacons

Harold Baker
Harold is responsible for the Correspondence Course, Baptismal Garment Preparation, and Communion Preparation areas.

Correspondence, Baptismal, & Communion Areas involve:
(1.) Mailing out and correcting returned Correspondence Course lessons.
(2.) Making sure baptismal garments and drying towels are clean, varied in sizes, and available for both the male and female dressing rooms.
(3.) Making sure the communion trays are prepared and available for both morning and evening worship services.

Steve Camp
Steve is responsible for helping to provide a smooth transition for our New Members.

New Members Area involves:
(1.) Compiling New Member Packets which include contact information, advertisements of our upcoming events, and specific details about the many service opportunities available for those who want to get involved.
(2.) Greeting visitors and giving Orientation Tours to help famil-iarize new members to the building and its resources and provide answers to any questions.
(3.) Working with the CLEO Team leaders who are responsible for the new members and volunteering to participate in the Group Dinner Chains.

Greg Carey
Greg is responsible for the Evangelism and Website Areas.

Evangelism Area involves:
(1.) Helping with efforts that will be provide resources, tools, and opportunities to use in spreading the Gospel corporately and individually.
(2.) Assisting with efforts to familiarize the community with the Avondale congregation and her work.
(3.) Researching the most effective ways to advertise our activities, seminars, worship services, etc.

Website Area involves:
(1.) Providing information to the members of the congregation regarding announcements, activities, calendar of events, etc. in a timely manner.
(2.) Providing information, world-wide, regarding the Avondale congregation and her works, spreading the Gospel, seeking the lost, etc.

Bill Cooke
Bill is responsible for the Grand Timers Area and Visitation.

Grand Timers Area involves:
(1.) Helping to build camaraderie and friendships among our "senior" members (aged 55 and above).
(2.) Helping to achieve good participation of Grand Timers in social activities.
(3.) Planning or helping to plan social activities that are enjoyable for this age group, such as: potluck fellowships, outings, game days, trips, etc.

Visitation Area involves:
(1.) Making contact with all of our visitors through a home visit or phone call to provide encouragement and answer any questions they may have.
(2.) Establishing Bible studies when visitors are interested in learning more about what the Bible teaches.
(3.) Helping Visitation leaders make assignments while identifying visitors and ensuring that the CLEO Team Leaders receive assignments for distribution during their team's fellowship lunch.

Jeff Fargason
Jeff is responsible for the Building Maintenance and Information Center Areas.

Building Maintenance Area involves:
(1.) Being available for scheduled and as needed work sessions for routine and specialty maintenance projects for the building.
(2.) Having handyman skills is essential.

Information Center Area involves:
(1.) Being available 15 minutes before and after service times to staff the Information Center and serve the needs of the congregation.
(2.) Being able to replenish and keep the Information Center organized.
(3.) Being able to change the marquis signs twice a month and develop text for the signs.

Vincent Fitch
Vincent is responsible for the Tracts and Worship Service Areas.

Tracts & Worship Areas involve:
(1.) Helping to maintain the tract inventory and restocking the tract wall pockets.
All men (Christian teens and older) may help with the work in the Worship area and serve by:
(2.) Helping to ensure men are available to serve in leading and assisting in the various areas of the worship services such as: leading the opening or closing prayer, presiding over or serving on the Lord's Supper table, and reading the sermon scripture.

Kevin Hannibal
Kevin is responsible for the Christians Loving Each Other Teams (Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green).

CLEO Area involves:
(1.) Helping to ensure all members are assigned to and involved in a C.L.E.O. Team.
(2.) Helping to ensure every member is properly informed about matters pertaining to the Avondale congregation and its members.
(3.) Encouraging and edifying new members.
(4.) Helping to create an atmosphere beneficial for spiritual growth and accountability outside of the scheduled worship meeting times.

Jed Hixson
Jed is responsible for Bible School and Pew Packers.

Bible School Area involves:
(1.) Helping to organize Bible school curriculum and visuals.
(2.) Helping to manage the Bible school supply room and library.
(3.) Coordinating Bible bowls and teacher workshops.

Pew Packers Area involves:
(1.) Encouraging young children to participate in Bible lessons and Bible songs.
(2.) Creating visual aides and grading Pew Packer's study sheets.
(3.) Providing treats and rewards for those Pew Packers that complete their lesson sheets.

Walter Jones
Walter is responsible for Benevolence and Congregational Meals.

Benevolence Area involves:
(1.) Helping to stock the pantry and freezer with needed food items for those members in need.
(2.) Volunteering to help package and coordinate donations and also interacting with the community.
(3.) Assist in creating baskets, labels, and accoutrements.

Congregational Meals Area involves:
(1.) Serving as greeters for arriving guests and visitors.
(2.) Transporting food items from the cars to the kitchen area.
(3.) Serve attendees, set-up, and clean-up for congregational events.

Charlie Minton
Charlie is responsible for Benevolence, College, and Edification Visiting.

Benevolence Area involves:
(1.) Helping to stock the pantry and freezer with needed food items for those members in need.
(2.) Volunteering to help package and coordinate donations and also interacting with the community.
(3.) Assist in creating baskets, labels, and accoutrements.

College Area involves:
(1.) Encourage participation in the AYAG (Avondale Young Adult Group) activities.
(2.) Assist college students with transportation to and from worship and other congregational functions.
(3.) Provide encouragement and godly advice as needed and when the opportunity arises.

Jason is responsible for Youth.

Youth Area involves:
(1.) Hosting Snak-N-Yak activities for the youth group.
(2.) Chaperoning youth rallies, youth retreats, and other activities.
(3.) Volunteering to teach assist in summer camps.

Wayne Reaves
Wayne is responsible for Edification.

Edification Area involves:
(1.) Encouraging members who are unfaithful, physically ill, or new members to the congregation.
(2.) Building spiritual bonds by hosting activities and events in small and large groups.
(3.) Helping with other works such as Benevolence and CLEO groups to assist those in need.

Ray Strickland
Ray is responsible for Georgia School of Biblical Studies and Ushers.

GSOP Area involves:
(1.) Gathering and ordering class materials for instructors.
(2.) Maintain enrollment and attendance of participating students.
(3.) Communicate with students and instructors as needed.

Ushers Area involves (For faithful men):
(1.) Welcome and greet members and visitors in the lobby / foyer of the building.
(2.) Assist in seating members and guests during worship and Bible study hours.
(3.) Monitor parking lot and building areas during services as well as assist with situations as they arises.
