The book of 1 Timothy clearly outlines the qualifications for both elders and deacons in the Lord's church. 1 Timothy 3:1 tells us, "This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." and in 1 Timothy 3:8ff tells us the qualifications for deacons and concludes in verse 13 stating, "For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and a great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Servants in the Lord's church hold a great responsibility and Avondale is fortunate to have qualified men willing to serve in the roles commanded by God's word. Serving as elders are the following men:

Elders

Charlie Anderson

My wife, Dorothy (Dot), and I became a part of the Avondale family in May of 1957. Being a small congregation at that time we both filled many roles as the congregation grew. After serving as a deacon for a brief time I was appointed an elder. We formerly worshiped at Moreland Avenue, the congregation that started Avondale. In 1965, I was privileged to be a part of the eldership that sponsored and conducted Atlantas first "Area Wide" Gospel Meeting, which brought congregations from throughout this region together. The Atlanta City Auditorium was filled each night. I was on the original board of Georgia AGAPE and served during its formative years.

Dot and I have been married 61 years. We have three children, Marsha, Mike and Mark. Marsha has three children and worships here at Avondale. Mike is married to Vicki and they have three children. Mark is married to Rhonda and they have two children. They worship at Snellville. At the time of this writing we have eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

After graduating from high school, I worked for Otis Elevator Company for four and a half years. I then worked as a paving and underground pipe line contractor for Concrete Construction Company for fifty years until the time of my retirement.
